Windows key + Space bar operates as a keyboard shortcut for Aero Peek.
Windows key + Up maximizes the current window.
Windows key + Down if current window is maximized, restores it; otherwise minimizes current window.

For yet AGAIN, loosing my existing Canned Responses.

I understand, by providing such feature, you had to keep it somewhere. I don’t think “Drafts” is the best place, as they are only hidden in the new UI. If one uses HTML Version, can easily delete the “templates”.

However, it was not me, but SOMEBODY aka YOU who deleted for the second time this templates.

I understand what Beta means, i also understand what Drafts means …

So please, remove the feature, or simply SUPPORT IT by providing a good service, don't randomly delete Draft contents without my permission. I may start to think twice about keeping my data online with Google.

I've changed my mind a bit, after reading this reddit discussion.

And why ? .. as time passes, I'm starting to see the truth in (shameless copy&paste from reddit discussion) :

You start programming simple programs, then you start programming more complex programs. Now, you're valuable as a programmer not because of your technical skills, but your ability to conceptualize a complex program (and then make it happen technically)...

Imagine you had 3 employees, all 3 of them were coders, but one of them clearly has been coding long enough to see the pitfalls in the future, conceptualize the overarching system, and build it intelligently. You want him to focus on his unique skill, so he becomes the designer and the two technical dudes are his grunts.

Fast forward...

Same thing happens again, you have a lot of technical coders and designers, but one has been working long enough to know how to deal with clients, understand time frames intimately, and also work with / advise technical coders AND designers.
Sorry to say, you're the perfect piece of glue to hold the shit together!

Google CEO Eric Schmidt envisions a radically changed internet five years from now:

Highlighted , include:

* Five years from now the internet will be dominated by Chinese-language content.

* Today's teenagers are the model of how the web will work in five years - they jump from app to app to app seamlessly.

* Five years is a factor of ten in Moore's Law, meaning that computers will be capable of far more by that time than they are today.

* Within five years there will be broadband well above 100MB in performance - and distribution distinctions between TV, radio and the web will go away.

* "We're starting to make signifigant money off of Youtube", content will move towards more video.

* "Real time information is just as valuable as all the other information, we want it included in our search results."

If Architects Had to Work Like Web Designers

Please design and build me a house. I am not quite sure of what I need, so you should use your discretion. My house should have somewhere between two and forty-five bedrooms. Just make sure the plans are such that the bedrooms can be easily added or deleted. When you bring the blueprints to me, I will make the final decision of what I want. Also, bring me the cost breakdown for each configuration so that I can arbitrarily pick one.

Keep in mind that the house I ultimately choose must cost less than the one I am currently living in. Make sure, however, that you correct all the deficiencies that exist in my current house (the floor of my kitchen vibrates when I walk across it, and the walls don't have nearly enough insulation in them).

As you design, also keep in mind that I want to keep yearly maintenance costs as low as possible. This should mean the incorporation of extra-cost features like aluminum, vinyl, or composite siding. (If you choose not to specify aluminum, be prepared to explain your decision in detail.)

Please take care that modern design practices and the latest materials are used in construction of the house, as I want it to be a showplace for the most up-to-date ideas and methods. Be alerted, however, that kitchen should be designed to accommodate, among other things, my 1952 Gibson refrigerator.

To insure that you are building the correct house for our entire family, make certain that you contact each of our children, and also our in-laws. My mother-in-law will have very strong feelings about how the house should be designed, since she visits us at least once a year.

Make sure that you weigh all of these options carefully and come to the right decision. I, however, retain the right to overrule any choices that you make.

Induzi um pequeno erro, os Length em alguns casos estavam a ser mal processados, e retornavam length "0".

Isto criou-me um problema grave, já que eu estava a usar os outputs para um documento .doc, com isto tinha um documento de 80 páginas com vários bugs.

Como os dados "errados" estavam dentro de uma tabela, e consoante o nome da coluna os lengths eram diffs, esperava-me uma tarefa árdua.

Ou não ...

Como tinha seguido a msm nomenclatura para tabelas mestres, no caso da coluna "code" o length seria 50, a coluna "name" seriam 4000 resolvi isto com um pequeno Sub de VBA.

Aqui fica o código para quem precisar (inclusive eu ... não quero perder isto :)

Em T-SQL, qd estou a trabalhar com scripts de BD, muitas das vezes, o header acaba por ser sempre o processo de recriar a BD.

O problema é que mts vezes, tenho outras janelas abertas com connections á BD em questão.

O seguinte script, verifica existência, caso exista efectua o DROP e recria.

PS : O mais importante, é matar as connections existentes também, senão o DROP/CREATE falha sempre

Após a má impressão deixada pelo Vista, o Windows 7 está a tentar recuperar a boa imagem.

As features são mts, e algumas não assim tão importantes como se pode ler aqui

Alguns podem referir que o facto da Microsoft referir este ponto, "We were able to shave 400 milliseconds off the shutdown time by slightly trimming the WAV file shutdown music." numa pré-release é sinal da atenção ao detalhe a este novo SO.

Sendo ou não um sinal de atenção ao detalhe, trouxe á discussão no Reddit sobre os tempos de boot/shutdown dos SOs actuais.

Segue-se a análise que um dos leitores do Reddit apresenta :

.. timed all 3 OS's on the same machine even. The numbers are (including some other OSs) --

Linux (Ubuntu pre-jaunty): 1.5 to 2 minutes to desktop. It was frustrating, most of the time was taken by Gnome, kernel booted up in less than 30 seconds.

Linux (Kubuntu 9.04): Just under a minute (57-58 sec). No changes under a VM, takes just as long to boot.

Arch Linux (custom kernel with only needed modules+few daemons): kernel boots up in 4 seconds flat (ie. ready for console login), starting X takes 10 seconds and like 5 mode switches, and Gnome login takes 1 whole minute.

PCBSD (with KDE 4.2.2): ~2 minutes on stock setup! I'm surprised, but haven't tweaked anything yet (just installed 2-3 days ago).

Win XP SP2: ~45 seconds on a fresh install, grows with time to as much as 90 sec. :-\ Under virtualbox running on an athlon xp 1.8ghz, it booted up in 5-6 seconds consistently.

OS X Leopard: exactly 45 seconds to desktop, 6-7 seconds less if I use a prelinked kernel (ie. drivers included in kernel image) should probably add that I'm using a custom kernel (though not much different from stock apple kernel)

OS X Tiger: I don't remember, but it was quite a bit less than stock leopard. I'd guess 35-40 sec.

I don't know about Vista, never tested.

All times are from after POST (ie. pressed Enter at bootloader) to desktop ready and hard disk idle.

edit: specs of the machine -- Pentium M 1.73 GHz, 512 MB RAM (some tests were done with 1.5 GB too but there was little difference [surprise]) @ 533 MHz, HDD 5400 rpm SATA, Intel i915GM motherboard+graphic card)

É pena este leitor não apresentar valores para o Vista e Windows 7, pois deste modo ficariamos com uma visão global. Mas tendo em conta que o processo de boot do Windows XP ronda entre os 45 e 90 segundos, e pelo que mts pessoas confirmam pela net que o Windows 7 é bem mais rápido que o Xp/Vista, podemos deduzir que o Windows 7 vai bem lançado na corrida.

Eu pessoalmente, fui uma das pessoas que ficou decepcionada com o Vista. Os seus problemas levaram-me a fazer rollback para o Windows XP.

Neste momento devo referir que estou muito curioso sobre o Windows 7 e espero que este me surpreenda pela positiva. Um ponto a realçar é a lentidão do Gnome em processo de boot, infelizmente queixo-me do msm.

Sobre o OsX Tiger, a primeira vez que usei um a rapidez do boot supreendeu-me bastante.

Ainda sobre os Linux Flavours, seria engraçado fazerem a msm comparação com o XFCE.

Alguém tem valores pessoais que queira partilhar ? ..

Limites Tráfego - Netvisão

NÃO ME LIXEM !!!! ... para não dizer com palavrões.

O meu ISP é a Cabovisão, e ao abrigo do contrato actual apenas disponho de 20 GB de tráfego (download/upload).

Chega-me perfeitamente, tendo em conta o periodo Happy Hour. Basicamente apenas navego mais ou faço downloads ao fim de semana, como este fds, em que saquei umas ISOs.

Na 2ª feira recebo o alerta por email ( opção desactiva por defeito no universo Cabovisão ), tinha atingido os 92% de trafego.

Após analisar conclui, que havia problemas ao nivel do periodo Happy Hour.

Foi necessário um telefonema para me corrigirem o tráfego, já que emails para a Cabovisão é coisa do passado ( Recebem e ignoram, that's the way to do it .. ).

Certamente que este seria mais um passo para ganharem algum dinheiro, ou até para me sugerirem novos serviços ou upgrade ao actual.

Basta ler as noticias sobre as diversas multas que a Anacom apresenta á Cabovisão
( mais aqui ) para começar a ter cuidado/controlo.

Recorde-se que já este ano a Cabovisão foi multada pela Anacom por violar a legislação que obriga os operadores a informarem os clientes sempre que as condições contratuais do seu serviço forem alteradas.

PS : Devo referir que aqui há umas 3 semanas, a Cabovisão ligou-me a perguntar se eu não queria subscrever outro produto e que deste modo passaria a ter Tráfego Ilimitado.

Career Advice

... avoid management positions. It is very easy to become a manager. The technical field is always happy to find a new mid-level manager who is technical competent. And your pay will initially rise much faster than if you stay a techie.

But there’s a serious downside. It is very hard to stay technically competent as a manager. So once you move to management, in about 7 to 15 years, you’ll have no useful technical skills. You just be another technically weak mid-level manager with indifferent business skills (since you don’t have an MBA). When times get tough, companies work very hard to keep their technical staff (and may even offer raises) while they are laying off mid-level managers. And it is a lot harder to find a new job as a manager than as a techie.

I feel the same, and have been dodging this.

1. What’s ROI stand for? Have you ever used this concept?
2. What is an MBO? Give an example.
3. Name three ways a PERT chart differs from a Gantt chart.

5. Define “delegation”. How does it differ from “assignment”?
6. What are all the ways a company could raise capital?

Ok, so it seems the guys in Blogger (Google) have changed the URL for the RSS and didn't warn anybody.

From what i've discovered while looking for similar problems, it seems that only the Blogs that have upgraded to Blogger beta were affected.

In my case, this was the situation :

My RSS was : XXXXX.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

And now,

My RSS is: XXXXX.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

This problem also affected with other formats ,

Atom was XXXXX.blogspot.com/atom.xml

And now,

Atom is: XXXXX.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/full

So what does this mean ? It means you could have lost some ( If not all ) your RSS subscribers.

This is a very bad move from the people in Blogspot, they could have just given backward compatibility ( eg. with the new URL, provide the features of the old URL )

For me this is a very bad move, and affected almost 80% of the Blogs i have in http://outsi.de.com ( a blog aggregator ), so if you experienced some extra time during the last days, it could have been from the Lack of RSS posts in Google Reader or within your RSS Engine.

... and now, i'm gonna perform some cleaning in my Google Reader which in the last days started to warn me about some Feeds not beeing OK, and now it all makes sense.

Em tempos de crise, mais vale estar quieto do que perder dinheiro com brincadeiras de "bolsa".

Aqui há uns tempos andava com a curiosidade em Bolsa, tendo em conta que não sigo assim com tanta atenção o mercado de Bolsa de Portugal, lembrei-me de fazer umas apostas com as empresas Tecnologicas do momento nos EUA.

Assim sendo, criei um Portfolio online no Yahoo Finance ( O Google tb permite este tipo de carteira virtual, mas achei mais confuso para quem é leigo na matéria ) .

Assim que criamos o portfolio, podemos começar a transaccionar ( ou Transar, para quem prefira :p ) com a nossa carteira virtual, este método é preferivel, visto que se forem como eu, custa brincar com o fruto do labor.

Após algum tempo, podem ir verificando a vossa carteira, e com base nas transacções iniciais :

Analisarem o resultado das vossas apostas.

Com esta ferramenta já podem brincar com Carteiras Virtuais sem se preocuparem em caso de perda de capital.

Claro que td este mundo de Bolsa, é algo infinitamente extenso e com mts mais possibilidades ... mas isso deixo para vcs pesquisarem pela net.

PS 1:Um conceito interessante, é o SHORT SELL que basicamente, é comprar a 5 ( ou a promessa da compra ), vender a 4, e ganhar 1, ou seja, é uma aposta em como o titulo desce de valor.

Encontrei um serviço mt interessante na nossa terrinha, Portugal, qd pensava eu que este tipo de "coisa" não acontecia por cá.

A Staples agora ( pelo menos, só agora o conheci ) tem um serviço de impressão/cópias.

Criei uma conta, acedi á área em questão, e para teste, usei o PDF do Ubuntu Pocket Guide, disponivel em :

Efectuei o upload do ficheiro para a minha área, tendo em conta, que a Staples permite-nos guardar os ficheiros para futuras impressões ( porreiro, mas não referem limites de espaço ).

Tendo em conta que se trata de um Pocket Guide, escolhi impressão A5, este PDF em questão têm 170 páginas, acabei por escolher uma encadernação térmica, com frente e verso, tal como se fosse um livrito "comprado".

Total pelo serviço :

Não está caro, e assumindo que não efectuei nenhuma escolha "parva", ficava o livro a um preço mt acessivel.

Futuramente irei imprimir uns livros, dps apresento o resultado :)
( Agradecia opiniões caso já tenham usufruido do serviço )

Lá por fora, já tinha encontrado serviços semelhantes a este, mas os portes de envio tornavam-o um pouco inacessivel.

Outro site interessante que descobri com o msm modelo (já ñ me lembro do nome), tinha um "twist" interessante, a partir do momento que alguém fazia o upload de um ficheiro, caso o desejasse, este tornaria-se público e disponivel para qualquer pessoa fazer a impressão. ( Eventualmente poderá já ter fechado devido a situações ilegais. )

A data de release da nova dashboard para a Xbox 360, é dia 19 Novembro, como se pode confirmar no site PT.

As imagens, já circulam pela net, a lista de novas features é que escasseiam por aparecer, no entanto, já me chegou ao email uma lista que td aponta ser oficial.

As novas features, além de todo o Eye Candy são as seguintes :

1. Option to delay sign-in to Xbox LIVE upon booting console (to allow user to set Online Status).
2. Option to promote Child Account from Family Settings.
3. Disallow Child Accounts (over 18) to override Family Settings by launching Privacy Settings through a title.
4. Option in Family Settings for Child Accounts to enable child-oriented/non-mature advertisements.
5. Introduce a group chat (4) for Private Chat and conferences through Video Chat.
6. Support to indicate media being watched to gamercard status (video content from Marketplace only).
7. Extend height for Bio field in Personal Profile, easier navigation through text.
8. More fields present in Personal Profile - recent achievements, interests, games, movies, links, custom section.

Há mar e mar, há ir e voltar

Após ter visionado em primeira pessoa durante uma surfada no domingo ( Costa da Caparica ), duas situações distintas e de escolas de surf diferentes fiquei um pouco perplexo.

Passo a descrever a primeira situação :

O Professor entra dentro de água com os seus pupilos, não vai munido de pés de pato, barbatanas, prancha ou algum tipo de dispositivo de flutuação.

Os alunos, entre os 10 e os 14 anos de idade (pelo que me pareceu), seguem á frente do professor. Após terem passado a zona inicial do shorebreak, 3 miúdas decidem que a zona em que se encontram é calminha demais e não tem "rapazes" na zona, e decidem ir para o pico onde está a matilha de lobos habituais.

O Professor começa a berrar dentro de água a chamar as 3 miúdas, que se separaram do grupo de ensino, as miúdas ignoram-no, ouvem o chamamento, riem, e ainda gozam, o professor, começa a dar á perna a tentar aproximar-se das miúdas, após 15 braçadas, deve ter ficado cansado ... voltou para perto do grupo principal dos alunos, e continuava a chamar as miúdas, e elas continuavam a ignorar, a brincar entre elas, e em pleno "galanço" á matilha no pico.

De referir, que nos 45m que as miúdas estiveram por perto, não as vi fazer nada, ou seja, o seu nivel de surf era demasiado iniciado, a leitura de mar péssimo ... ou seja, não sei para o que pagam

Segunda situação :

Entra um grupo de alunos/as todos mascarados com a msm licra, a identificar a escola proveniente (penso eu), dirigem-se para o pico e vêm todos com a leveza da juventude ... riem, divertem-se, tal como deve ser a prática de qualquer desporto. Professor, nem vê-lo !! Repito, nunca percebi quem estava a liderar este novo grupo de pupilos, não assisti a nenhum tipo de "gestão" do exercicio da prática do surf.

.... As ondas começam a ficar pesadas, umas das miúdas começa a afastar-se mais para fora, de cada vez que entravam um set mais pesado, ela começava a afastar-se para fora e com sinais de medo, ao fim de 2 sets, já chorava dentro de água, um dos amigos ( não devia ter mais que 14 anos ) começa a chamá-la mais para a zona do pico, ao que ela, apenas chorava, tremia e dizia "está grande demais ... tenho medo !", algumas das "pseudo-amigas" riam entre elas, em gozo, em prazer do sofrimento da colega.

Pergunto-me se neste momento, a miúda que estava com medo dentro de água ainda tem vontade em aprender a fazer surf, ou se já terá desistido, inclusive das aulas ?

Pessoalmente, decidi afastar-me do grupo, até pq começava a ser gente a mais no mesmo sitio, e aquela situação começou a causar-me alguma confusão. Numa altura do ano, em que já não existem apoios ao salvamento nas praias, como é que é possivel que uma escola de Surf não cumpra regras minimas de segurança, já para não falar nas regras minimas de formação do desporto.

Até quando as escolas irão proliferar sem regras impostas de segurança, sem limites/responsabilidades defenidas.

A meu ver, as escolas deveriam ter sempre 1 professor por cada 4 alunos dentro de água, isto pq, será o valor aceitável para que em caso de perigo os alunos consigam ser direccionados de forma eficiente e segura. Eventualmente, tb poderia existir um professor fora de água a "ler" melhor os alunos e a direccioná-los para as zonas certas ou a corrigir movimentos.

O professor deverá estar munido de barbatanas e/ou algum tipo de dispositivo de flutuação, seja prancha de surf/bodyboard, isto pq, o professor também se cansa, e ao fim de andar de um lado para o outro pode ficar cansado. Um simples apito tb poderá ser útil, em caso de perigo era só dar sinal.

Para grupos grandes de alunos, deveria ser obrigatória a presença de barco de apoio dentro de água, bem como alguém com conhecimentos técnicos de reanimação e cuidados médicos, poderia até ser um nadador salvador ( visto que os conteúdos dos cursos são mais que abrangentes )

As praias/zonas deviam ser catalogadas de algum modo, ou seja, zonas para principiantes em que as escolas poderiam ter o seu raio de acção controlado.
( Eventualmente, até gerido como se fossem concessões )

Ou algo muito mais simples, as escolas estarem munidas de viaturas, em que em dias de mar grande, podem levar os miudos para zonas de surf mais calmas e mais controladas. A Costa da Caparica a bombar sets de 1,5m não me parece nada adequado á aprendizagem

Desta maneira, uma escola, um professor ENSINA, e efectua a GESTÃO da segurança dos seus alunos de uma forma controlada, e não como isto está a caminhar.

Penso que se isto caminhar nesse sentido, juntamente com a FALTA de regras que existem hoje, estamos a caminhar á beira do abismo.

É claro que se seguissem algumas das ideias que dou acima, a experiência dentro de água tal como a conhecemos, será outra. Ou seja, uma ida á praia pode tornar-se algo nada pacifico, professores dentro de água com apitos, barcos de apoio, etc .... mas pelo menos julgo que um pai poderá estar descansado.

Não consigo perceber como que um professor se atira para dentro de água com 10 alunos, sem levar uma prancha ou barbatanas, nem a porra de um apito para avisar/chamar caso necessário, e não pensa como terá que reagir caso algo corra mal. Basta 2 miúdos pequenos ficarem com caimbras numa zona complicada, e o professor tem que abdicar do controlo dos restantes 8 para tirar os putos dali.

Quem sabe, as próprias Associações/Escolas de Surf poderiam ter voto na matéria e efectuar algum tipo de esforço.
Eventualmente, outra ideia, seria a existência de um professor fora de água a "ler" melhor os alunos e a direccioná-los em debater o tema com as entidades competentes, e não se limitarem a encaixar o $ recebido, de quem pensa que paga por formação com qualidade e segurança.

Tenho esperança que alguém ponha os olhos nas irresponsabilidades cometidas semanalmente em mts praias portuguesas e que as coisas mudem, antes que algo de grave aconteça.

Não me entendam mal, ... tenho curso de Nadador Salvador ( apesar de nunca ter exercido profissionalmente ) , curso de Apneia, pratico Natação desde que me lembro, já pratiquei Remo, Canoagem e pratico Bodyboard há uns anos valentes e sempre senti um grande prazer/respeito pelo MAR, no entanto, já tive que colocar em prática o que aprendi, e tive que lidar com a falta de responsabilidade de quem se atira para o mar sem mais nem menos....

No entanto, ao ver muitas irresponsabilidades juntas, quase que me coloco no problema e por pouco não vou meter conversa com o professor ( caso ele esteja lá ). Este domingo, esteve lá perto, apeteceu-me apertar os calos ao professor, bem como um grito de alerta para as miúdas parvas que não ligavam nenhuma, a quem presumo eu, assine pela sua responsabilidade.

Dou um exemplo, certo dia na Costa da Caparica, estava a dirigir-me para o pico, qd ouço os pescadores a pedir ajuda que estava um miudo perto do pontão prestes a levar a porrada da vida dele.
Dirigi-me para o miudo, comecei a rebocá-lo para fora daquela zona, após alguns instantes vem o nadador salvador da praia em socorro do miudo, assim que ele chegou perto deste, eu afastei-me e deixei-o fazer o seu trabalho, tal não é o meu espanto, qd ao fim de 5m tenho o nadador salvador a pedir-me os pés de pato, visto que ele próprio estava a ficar cansado e na zona onde estava estava continuamente a ser puxado para fora e não conseguia sair dali... fiquei fulo, então este David Hasseloff de meia tigela, não conhece a própria praia, não conhece as correntes, onde estão os canais que puxam para fora... e vem "descalço" desta maneira .

Acabei por dar um "chega para lá "ao nadador salvador, reboquei o puto até zona segura, e continuei o meu surf... a pensar no "panhonha" que se armou em Baywatch.

PS : Juro que ao ver o gajo a correr em direcção ao puto, cheguei a ouvir a banda sonora do BayWatch

Relembro, as 3 regras de OURO do salvamento ao náufrago (A ordem destas regras é mt importante).

- 2 - ALERTAR
- 3 - SOCORRER

Yesterday, discovered a great C# Hack.

Sometimes, one needs to filter a DataTable .... simple, just use DefaultView RowFilter.

But, what if, one needs to apply a Distinct to the DataTable ( with the Filter implied or not ... )

... et voila, solution :

DataTable dtAux= Get_Data(); // random data request

dtAux.DefaultView.RowFilter = " status = 1 "; // example of using a filter

Segue-se o inicio da minha novela, vamos ver se tem resolução simples.

Basicamente, tenho o dominio em baixo por problemas de DNS, qd tento mudar os DNS pelo painel de gestão da minha conta, aquilo muda c sucesso mas sem afectar permanentemente.

Envio email para o suporte, dizem-me que tenho que contactar por telefone.
No contacto tenho que dar o meu username/password ( not a good idea .. ).

Já não é a 1a vez que tenho problemas com a Network Solutions, e já assumi que, ou isto tem resolução simples, ou mudo.

Vamos ver o que vai dar ..

I try to change the DNS trough the web management, all seems ok.

24hrs Later, the DNS is back to the DNS of NetworkSolutions, so basically, my services are down.

ns2.hostingplayground.com

to the DNS from NS ..

I already sent email for help, on this issue, however, they send me back to telephone call, meaning, i have to solve this trough a phone call.

Now, let me explain, my problem is, i'm not English Native, i'm Portuguese, and besides the fact i can write ENGLISH, when i have to SPELL my username/password by the telephone, not only i take FOREVER but i have to pay A BIG telephone bill....

So i reckon, i will loose 30m just to spell username/password by the phone, and a additional 30m to spell my nameservers.

This, only to change the DNS.

So if possible, pls change the DNS for domain "gestao.de" to point to :

ns1.hostingplayground.com
ns2.hostingplayground.com

Like it was before.

So PLEASE, just correct my DNS problem, so i don't have to make a expensive phone call .. or worst, change my Domains from Network Solutions.

PS : Unfortunately my servers don't support IPV6, or else, i would be able to solve this problem by email.

Recentemente ( 13 Ago 2008 ), para quem ainda não detectou, o serviço Twitter deixou de efectuar o envio de SMS. Para muita pena minha, pois até tinha desenvolvido umas brincadeiras ( brincadeiras, nada sério como o Público que tb ficou a perder com o fim do serviço ) com a vertente de SMS.

Segue um excerto do post em que deram a boa noticia :

Com isto, e analisando o gráfico de uso internacional, não consigoperceber o post de hoje :

The blue in the chart above illustrates the percent of outgoing SMS we stopped sending. 2% of our user base consumed 4% of our outbound SMS over the UK number at a price which disproportionately impacted overall operational cost. Nevertheless, this 2% is important to us and the UK number remains active for incoming SMS. Resumindo, 60% do tráfego é internacional, deste 50% divide-se entre Japão e Espanha. E referem :

“2% of our user base consumed 4% of our outbound SMS over the UK number ”

Então e a frase “We achieved this goal in Canada, India, and the United States.” … não me digam que o vosso broker de SMS envia para o Japão via USA/Canada/India ?

Algo cheira mal, algo está mal contado, impossivel terem tido uma quebra tão pequena ( 4% ).

Basta ler os comments ao post da quebra do SMS, para perceber que os valores tem que ser superiores a 4%.

Já não disponibilizam IM, agora já não tem SMS, clientes de jeito para aquilo ainda não encontrei nenhum, tem constantes quebras de serviço.

…só me resta opinar que sobre o Twitter, o fim está próximo, “for sure !”

Black Sunday Hack - GAME OVER

Durante algum tempo, a moda pegou em PT, existiam muitos subscritores (ilegais) de TV Cabo que com um prato satélite e um receptor Kaon ( ou marca similar ) captavam o sinal e usufruiam do serviço sem pagar.

Com firmwares alternativos e meia dúzia de códigos desencriptavam o sinal, usufruindo deste modo do serviço de TV por satélite, incluindo canais de subscrição Premium , como SportTV, Telecine, canais de Carvão, etc.

Ao mesmo tempo que se usavam estas técnicas, já existiam outros tipos de utilizadores "avançados", que compravam cartões de subscrição "zerados", um leitor/gravador e carregavam os cartões com chaves válidas, deste modo, usufruindo já de emissões provenientes de outros satélites que tinham modos de acesso diferentes ( os tais cartões ).

As chaves mudavam, os códigos mudavam e lá estavam estes subscritores por detrás do computador a actualizar firmwares e chaves de acesso. Rotina chata, mas para quem quer poupar uns trocos, achavam que valia a pena.

Eis então que surge televisão digital por satélite.

Agora que a televisão por sátelite com qualidade HD está disponível, certamente que irão reaparecer os hacks para usufruir destes serviços sem pagar.

... no entanto, o peixe já não morde o isco, o peixe aprendeu a reconhecer o fio de pesca e tem sede de vingança.

Segue-se um resumo da evolução que se passou em EUA com a DirectTV.

"4 or more years ago DirecTV launched its service. DirecTV was one of the very first large distributors of smart card technology in their product. So much so, that Hughes corp. (the primary owner of DirecTV) decided to create their own smart cards. Each receiver has a smart card located inside that is keyed to the subscriber, and actively participates in the decryption of the digital satellite video stream. However, considering Hughes decided on this technology when it was virtually in its infancy, they made several mistakes. The hacker community caught onto these mistakes, and there has been a war between DirecTV and the hacking community ever since. For the past two or more years, it was apparent the hacking community would win this war, completely opening the DirecTV signal. However, over the last 6 months, DirecTV has fought back with a vengeance, displaying the most extensive technical campaign against the hacking of their product..."

Segue-se um enquadramento .. a uma história mt interessante.

"One of the original smart cards, entitled 'H' cards for Hughes, had design flaws which were discovered by the hacking community. These flaws enabled the extremely bright hacking community to reverse engineer their design, and to create smart card writers. The writers enabled the hackers to read and write to the smart card, and allowed them to change their subscription model to receive all the channels. Since the technology of satellite television is broadcast only, meaning you cannot send information TO the satellite, the system requires a phone line to communicate with DirecTV.

The hackers could re-write their smart cards and receive all the channels, and unplug their phone lines leaving no way for DirecTV to track the abuse.

DirecTV had built a mechanism into their system that allowed the updating of these smart cards through the satellite stream. Every receiver was designed to 'apply' these updates when it received them to the cards. DirecTV applied updates that looked for hacked cards, and then attempted to destroy the cards by writing updates that disabled them. The hacking community replied with yet another piece of hardware, an 'unlooper,' that repaired the damage. The hacker community then designed software that trojanized the card, and removed the capability of the receivers to update the card.

DirecTV could only send updates to the cards, and then require the updates be present in order to receive video. Each month or so, DirecTV would send an update. 10 or 15 minutes later, the hacking community would update the software to work around the latest fixes. This was the status quo for almost two years. 'H' cards regularly sold on eBay for over $400.00. It was apparent that DirecTV had lost this battle, relegating DirecTV to hunting down Web sites that discussed their product and using their legal team to sue and intimidate them into submission.

Four months ago, however, DirecTV began sending several updates at a time, breaking their pattern.

While the hacking community was able to bypass these batches, they did not understand the reasoning behind them. Never before had DirecTV sent 4 and 5 updates at a time, yet alone send these batches every week. Many postulated they were simply trying to annoy the community into submission. The updates contained useless pieces of computer code that were then required to be present on the card in order to receive the transmission. The hacking community accommodated this in their software, applying these updates in their hacking software. Not until the final batch of updates were sent through the stream did the hacking community understand DirecTV.

Like a final piece of a puzzle allowing the entire picture, the final updates made all the useless bits of computer code join into a dynamic program, existing on the card itself. This dynamic program changed the entire way the older technology worked. In a masterful, planned, and orchestrated manner, DirecTV had updated the old and ailing technology. The hacking community responded, but cautiously, understanding that this new ability for DirecTV to apply more advanced logic in the receiver was a dangerous new weapon.

It was still possible to bypass the protections and receive the programming, but DirecTV had not pulled the trigger of this new weapon.

"Last Sunday night, at 8:30 pm est, DirecTV fired their new gun. One week before the Super Bowl, DirecTV launched a series of attacks against the hackers of their product. DirecTV sent programmatic code in the stream, using their new dynamic code ally, that hunted down hacked smart cards and destroyed them. The IRC DirecTV channels overflowed with thousands of people who had lost the ability to watch their stolen TV. The hacking community by and large lost not only their ability to watch TV, but the cards themselves were likely permanently destroyed. Some estimate that in one evening, 100,000 smart cards were destroyed, removing 98% of the hacking communities' ability to steal their signal. To add a little pizzazz to the operation, DirecTV personally "signed" the anti-hacker attack.

The first 8 computer bytes of all hacked cards were rewritten to read "GAME OVER".

Apesar do artigo do Slashdot ser de 2001, é engraçado verificar que em PT o nosso desfasamento contra a pirataria a este nivel está muito atrasada.

Vamos ver qual será a postura tanto da MEO como da ZON perante estes novos mercados de televisão digital por satélite.

Pelo que me constou, a subscrição ao MEO por Satélite, anda elevada ...

Qual será a resposta ?

PS : Os subscritores que me refiro no inicio do post, há cerca de 1 ano, sofreram um atraso, a TV Cabo actualizou o sistema e acabou-se o uso indevido.

No entanto tb acho que esta "cultura" acabou por cair em desuso devido á dificuldade em manter o serviço a funcionar, em fins de semana de jogo na SportTV, os códigos mudavam a cada 4h .. ou algo parecido.

Devia parecer alguns serviços de 3G, funcionavam aos soluços, quem paga pelo serviço já ficava chateado, quem não paga ... ainda aguenta, mas ao fim de algum tempo desiste.

Tenho amigos nos 2 lados da barricada, alguns usavam o serviço em modo "ilegal", outros usavam o serviço em modo legal e mesmo assim sofriam das alterações ao serviço da TV CABO, ou seja, pagavam a conta no fim do mês e a meio do jogo, UPSSSSSS !!!!
